This past week

This past week I did like two mystery shops and went shopping like twice this week.... first did lots of walking and second the darn cashiers don't know their policy, so that left me standing for like 20 minutes extra!

So ever since Thursday, my legs have been sore.... GOOD SORE!

Four Daughters

This guest post from Werner Rogers

My wife and I have four daughters. I used to think that there would be no financial differences in having daughters versus having sons until they got married because of the price of their weddings. I was completely wrong. Each year, our power bill has gone up exponentially. From the moment our girls get up until the moment they go to bed, they are using so much electricity. It starts when they each take a 20 minute shower, then dry their hair, straighten their hair, and then curl it with a curling iron. Then they need special lighted mirrors to put their makeup on. They always leave their lights in their rooms on when they leave the house and I am constantly running around after them turning lights off. When they get home, they each get on the computer or watch TV. When they are not doing that, they are on the phone. Thank goodness they have cell phones because they do not use electricity except when they are charging. After last month’s power bill, I decided to see if I could find some better Electric Deals because our power bill is by far the highest it has ever been. Hopefully I’ll be able to save some money in this area somehow.

Happy 4th...

Great day for the U.S.A.! Independance day... When I was younger I would get the 4th confused with New Years! lol I don't know why. I thought New Years was on the 4th and vice versa. But now I got it all straightened out!

Well, in Texas, south Texas that is, we love to buy & pop our own fireworks. We call them "quetes!" And there are firework stands at almost every corner. They are illegal to pop within city limits, but many families do it anyways. We are out of the city, so we usually buy about $40 worth and enjoy the evening, or we'll go to grandmas house for a cook-out. When I was younger I also associated the holidays with someone getting hurt or fighting, lol. It was so much fun when I look back now. We had people fall off the roof, burn a finger (of course), break an arm, fall of a chair and so much fun with water-balloons! LOL

However you celebrate it, I hope you make some good memories and just relax and don't rush the day! Take it all in & keep America clean too, please!

In celebration, head on over to my Bamboopink Fan Page and check out my 24-hr auction & giveaway HERE! Email me if you want me to add an item for auction or something to giveaway if you're int he giving spirit!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

Guest Post ~ Women in a Different Light

SAG Awards
Written by my friend Constance Hayden

I think that one of the most incredible shows to watch on satellite television, that I got after seeing this http://www.directstartv.com, is the Screen Actors Guild Award ceremony. I love to watch this show and get a taste for which new celebrities are up and coming. There are so many young actresses and actors that are invited to this show every year and make an appearance. It is always fun to watch these young actresses and actors, to see which ones end up winning awards or end up having the best outfits at the SAG awards show.

I love to watch this show every year, with a group of my closest friends. We are all quite interested in fashion, as well as the world of celebrities. This show is our opportunity to predict which celebrities are going to become popular in the future. I have usually been right in the celebs that I have chosen as the most likely to be successful from the SAG awards show. The young actresses that I pick out from the crowd usually go on to star in the most hilarious romantic comedies of the year. I must admit that I have a talent for being able to pick out which actors and actresses will enjoy success in the film industry.

Overall, the SAG awards show is different form other shows, and because of this, offers quite a different perspective.

Out of the Box

I love to be different, I love to do new things and that's what I want at our wedding as well. As I've been telling everyone about my theme and what I want it to be like I get lots of odd looks, like, "That's different." Good, I say! lol I was going through some wedding blogs and I ran across Kimberly on Facebook. She was talking about a wedding she had just attended, she lives in South Korea. To live in any other country than your own is amazing. So I asked her if it was okay to share some photos and her post about it and she was more than happy to share with ya'll. I love the traditional dresses but I also want it to look chic and put together... What do you think?

A Korean wedding is very modern from the very long, flowing white dress to the basic ceremony of prayer and well wishes. However, there is a lot of cultural and traditional elements that occur on this special day. Before going into the details of the wedding, first you need to know that when a female is married, she keeps her last name. When she has children though, they will carry the husband's last name. Her name is also moved to his family tree. The name is written in black like the rest of the names. If a Korean passes away, their name is written in red. This is one of the reasons you should never write a Korean's name in red since it's saying that they should have an early death (this is actually based on a Chinese tradition).

Like any wedding day, family members come to celebrate the joining of the happy couple. Many Koreans will have their wedding usually in their hometowns to have less traveling for their families. Hardly any of them run off and do a "Vegas style" wedding because of their respect for tradition............. READ MORE of Kimberly's experience and a cool video too!!

I think...

I think we have picked our VENUE!! AHh, how exciting. Price is the only thing holding us back from picking the one I WANT! lol The more expensive one is MY choice because of the fact that nature plays a roll in the decor! Hubs first choice is ONLY because it is closer and easier to find. It also is an outdoor venue, but it's enclosed by walls, there is no roof. I want to say who it's going to be, but I don't want something to happen last minute..... but just imagine.... tinkly lights EVERYWHERE!

I'm also excited because we've got our engagement party scheduled as well and we will officially release our wedding date and then we will send out our Save the Date video that we won!

For those planning a wedding locally, make sure you don't miss:

Parties!

I love taking my girls to parties but not when they serve this:

I have to confess that I think I ate like THREE slices of pizza and some cake. I came home and did laundry, but didn't work out so tomorrow... WORKOUT before weigh-in in the evening!

Been walking...

With all the wedding planning and visiting venues we've been getting in some good "walking" time. I'm considering buying the shape-ups. What do you think? Here are some photos of the last venue I visited. (Museum of South Texas History)

Slim Me Down Weekly Weight Loss Challenge: Week 1

I have been wanting to join a "challenge" for a while. About three years ago I did eDiets.com and I loved it. I've been wanting to go back, but the price has gone up. I loved all the challneges and I even won a few and got a few months FREE for winning. It was such motivation. At that time I was losing weight so that we could have baby #2 and it worked! After losing 20lbs the following month we became pregnant!
About a year ago I joined CafeMom and has a great support team, but the support just faded away. I still post, but there's no activity, so no challenge, and I love to be challenged.

So, I just finally chose to link up with LWT Lebedas & MFT for their weekly challenge, "Slim Me Down..." I have been tracking for a few weeks so I'm putting in those numbers... Without further adieu here are my numbers

More Insirations!

Ohh, I'm so excited because Hubs and I have an appoitment to go see "La Placita" in Pharr, Tx. It's an indoor patio, which sounds kinda weird and downfall is that it only sits 200. I mean that's not really a downfall, but I don't want people to be squished and both our families are on the bigger side, so we need extra room.

I also wanted to share some pics from last Sundays Super Sunday Bridal Expo! It was held at the prestigious Cimmaron Club. I got a personal invitation to the event... Check it out! Ohh and the best part is.... keep reading!

The Famous Candy Bar! Anyone know popular asian candies? Also... GUESS WHAT?! I won again. This time I won 20% off a local furniture rentals! I forgot the name and it's too cold outside to go get my wedding bag from the car!

Super Sunday Bridal Expo

Yup! While the men are watching the game The Club at Cimarron is hosting a bridal expo. I was given FREE tickets to attend! They came in a fancy little card, so I will be visiting, taking pictures, getting ideas and see what vendors are in attendance. The Club at Cimarron is a fancy golf/country club in the area, so I hope there are some good vendors that I can get ideas from! I'm also excited for one of the prizes to be given away: Ultimate rehearsal dinner for 40! Wish me luck!
Date: February 6, 2011
Time: 11-4pm
Place: The Club At Cimarron, Mission, TX

No Excuse...

Ahh, it is 6AM and i'm up.... Over the past few years we have been "Afternoon" people. Really. It's hard to confess, but we would sleep till about noon, every single day. Both Hubs and I work from home, so it's super easy to be lazy! I mean our toddler also sleeps till that time, so other than Hubs taking our eldest to school, there's no other reason to wake up late. But that sooo has to change. Every Wednesday I always want to go to the farmers market or the flea market but we never make it because we wake up so late. I also wanted to get in a workout before I got up and did what I had to do, but by the time I knew it, it was time to pick up our eldest and half the day was gone! I use to also do a lot more work, working with clients and getting everything done before noon.

Well, I'm turning things around.... for the past few weeks I've been going to bed around 9pm and waking up around 6am. Before, I wouldn't go to bed till about 2am. I've been eating breakfast, even if it's a cup of oatmeal and doing a few chores around the house. I also do my exercising. That's one reason why I wanted to post this. I will be doing some reviews of some exercising programs and fad diets. I also want to do some Q&A's. So if you have a question or if you have an answer (expert or not), great opportunity for guest posts, please email me (vetsmom_rgv@yahoo.com) and we can work together. If you have any other suggestions on what you'd like to see on my blog please let me know! If you have a product that you'd like me to try out (No Diet Pills Please) just shoot me an email too!

Thanks for following me... Now I have no excuse for not working out!

Yo-Yo is No Go!

Today we have a guest post from Mr. Elyashiv... I had the pleasure of getting to know him and a few other "weight-loss" tweeters during last weeks twitter party for Cherrios & The Biggest Loser. I asked him if he would be willing to do a guest post and here it is:

How to prevent the Yo-Yo diet effect
By Ozzie Elyashiv www.twitter.com/trainwithoz

Ozzie Elyashiv is a Certified Personal Trainer, Holistic Nutritionist, Group Fitness Instructor and Performance Nutritionist.  He has years experience in personal training, group fitness, nutrition advice and selling supplements and health foods.

So many of us have suffered from the up and down effect of yo-yo dieting.  We lose an AMAZING 40lbs, and then we add 45... Lose 45 then add 50... And so the roller coaster goes.  If so many of us have experienced this, can it be prevented?  Why does this happen to SO MANY people who try and lose weight.  The quick answer, it is because of your approach to diet.
Fad diets DO NOT work.  Cutting carbs completely DOES NOT WORK!  Eating only grapefruit for 6 weeks is insanity!!!  So then, what does work?  Easy, a simple thing called small steps and balance.
For most people, food is associated with family, comfort, good times and enjoyment.  What this leads us to do is over eat.  In North America, portion size has increased by over 300% in the last 20 years.  We are eating more calories than we need, and most of us are less active due to technology, traffic and desk jobs.
What seems to happen is that people will go on an all out diet.  They stop eating ice cream, stop putting sugar in their coffees, stop having fast food etc...  The good news is they lose tons of weight because they are eating well.  What happens next is not so nice, they slip up... they cave to that piece of chocolate cake and then the flood gates open.  It becomes a non stop eating fiasco.  If that does not happen, once people reach their goals, they loosen up a bit, and before you know it, you are eating the exact same way as you were before.  Next step?  Weight goes right back on.
Before you start a weight loss journey, you need to ask yourself why you want to lose weight.  You also have to be ready to answer that very honestly.  Is it because you want to feel sexier?  Do you want to look like a super model?  Do you need to lower your cholesterol?  Are you afraid of diabetes?  Is it because people call you fat?
I have noticed that those who best succeed long term are those whose answer is simply, I want to get healthy and enjoy my life!
No matter what shape you are in right now, no matter what your overall health status is, it can be changed.  The key to success is small steps.  If you overhaul your diet you will follow it to a tee for a few weeks and then you’ll derail badly.  Make small progressive steps.  You drink a lot of soda; make that step 1, cut out the pop.  Next step, bread and pasta goes from white to brown.  Make these steps slowly, every 10 days or so, this way the transition isn’t hard.
You also need to get active.  No need to join every single Zumba class in town.  To be very honest, aerobics is ok, but you are much better off with a short weight lifting routine.  But Ozzie, I HATE the gym!!!  No problem, find a sport or activity you like and go for it.  Want to try ballroom dancing, PERFECT!!!  Basketball?  Excellent!  Swimming?  Splendid!
Getting healthy should never feel like a task, it is a life choice.  You are not on a diet; you simply changed your diet to include healthy choices, and to exclude processed high sugar high fat foods.
People often tell me that this is great but it will be a slower weight loss this way.  That may be true, it may take a few weeks longer to reach your ideal weight, but if you keep this lifestyle, it will stay there.  The Yo-yo effect is gone, and you will have your health.

I know this seems a bit much, so if you need any recipe tips, foods not to eat, foods to try etc... Please follow my blogs at www.mytraineroz.blogspot.com and www.trainwithoz.weebly.com

Happy Health!!!

Decisions, Decisions

And I feel like I'm making them all by myself! lol. But how many husbands are actually interested in helping plan the wedding. All they know is that they really really like this girl and want to have her babies, lol. I want him to come with me next weekend to start choosing our wedding registry items. It won't be a lot, it will just be what we need. But he won't care if I decide to scan a Sausage Stuffer! But he does surprise me sometimes... The other day I was at our local consignment store and I was going to buy a beautiful (vintage, I think) glass pitcher. It has the older style painted design on it. And Hubs actually stopped me and was like we have like a billion pitchers at home. I was like yeah, but they're old and probably leak in bpa. He pays attention at the weirdest times. Blah! Anywho...

So, with all the decisions I've been making, this past weekend I went for a jog. I just took in the scenery and now I want to drive around and take a look at all the local parks! I mean there was a lot of people at the park that I was at... thinking... and was like like can I ask these people to leave during my wedding? Lol. There was lots of hot sweaty men playing soccer. Which, come to think of it, wouldn't be a bad photo opp, right?!

So I'm still having trouble picking a venue! I so want to pick one before we make our "Save the Date" video that we won...

IDEAS?!

Hopeful!!!

Don't know when the last time I weight myself... but I'm down almost 5 lbs!! **Happy Dance**

I haven't been exercising as much as I like, but I have been eating pretty good. Yesterday Hubs took me to a buffet, which I really don't like going to, but it was FREE cus it was my birthday, so I had no objections. I had a salad plate, no dressing (lemon & pepper) and then a plate of... i can't remember. I didn't like the fact that there wasn't much vegetables! Ahhh, I really 'dislike' that!

Anyways.... so, just got to pick up the exercise and I should be good.

Okay... wedding input needed. I finished wedding *first dance* song. I want it to be our first dance, but I also want to say "hell & goodbye" to my daddy and my hubs daddy. We both lost them recently (2005/2009). These were really low times for both of us and we miss them dearly. So both our dads loved music. My dad was a musican as well. He loved the beatles and music with meaning and a great beat! So I was looking for beatles "Love songs." But their loves songs are really lovely, lol. Then I stumbled across this one! Ohhh, I hope this is the one.... My daughter was 16 months when my dad past and my mom got or found a cute chim that you can play "All You Need Is Love" on it... she'd walk around the house humming and singing this song!

Other than this one... Thinking of Barbra & Bryan! "I Finally Found Someone!" I would listen to this song when I was younger thinking of boys! lol

Guest List

From WeddingMagazine.org
Ohhhh! How can I do this? I have my family, my hubs family, my grandmas family my other grandmas family and my grandpas family. My "friends" list won't be long. Don't have that many close friends, thank goodness. But it's hard to not forget anyone. How did you decide who to invite and where did you cut it off. How many guests did you have.

When I talk to vendors I've been telling them 200, but I'm afraid it might be more. I'm using TheKnot to put everything together, but I'm thinking of having something in writing to just flip through pages instead of clicking!

Then I have the invitations.... Ohh I'm sure etiquette has changed... How do you invite family members who are not in good standings with others, or those who are divorced, or those who are just not good in social events?

I got a headache already and it's only 7am! I think I'm going to stop for now. I started my list... I only have 26 so far!
